The 50th AAAS Forum on Science and Technology Policy is a conference for people interested in public policy issues facing the science, engineering, and academic communities.

This year the Forum on S&T Policy is hosted by The George Washington University and will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the AAAS R&D Budget and Policy Program. In trying to capture the spirit of a program that has been an observer and reporter of federal funding data, the Forum has been styled as an event where you will hear from speakers about how federal research funding and scientific data impacts the U.S. research enterprise and society. This year you are also invited to be a co-creator in the future of these two critical pillars.

The Forum will be centered around two tracks: Scientific Data Infrastructure and Funding Policies and Models. Panelists will speak about the challenges to gather, curate, store, and use large datasets, as well as the state of grant funding policies at the federal level, the variety of R&D grant management organizations and the impacts different grant policies have onthe research ecosystem and decision-making. .On the second day, you will be invited to participate in a foresight activity trying to build the future of funding or data – what should the space look like in 10, 30 or even 50 years? What do we need to do, or not do, to achieve that vision of the future?

The Forum will close with the annual William D. Carey Lecture followed by a networking reception.

Who should attend? Scientists and engineers, research administrators, industrial R&D managers, policymakers, association officials, federal grant recipients, students, science diplomats, government affairs specialists, public affairs officers, science writers, and others with an interest in the intersection of policy with science and technology.
